Abstract

The steam back extracts of three species of the Annonaceous family namely Friesodielsia enghiana, Aratabotrys stenopetalus and Uvaria mocoli showed toxicity to the brine shrimp Aretimia salina. Series of chromatographic fractionations led to the isolation of a wide range of chemically diverse compounds including sesquiterpenes, alkaloid and flavonbids. 25 of these compound showed various degree of toxicity to the brine shrimp, over 80% showing LC50 < 100 µg/ml.
