Author Guidelines
Requirements for manuscript submission
Authors wishing to submit a manuscript to the Journal of Educational Innovations in Science and Technology (JEIST) should follow the requirements below carefully. Manuscripts that do not conform to the journal's submission and formatting requirements may be returned to authors for correction before they are considered for review.
Manuscripts should be between 4,000 and 7,000 words, including references, and must be submitted in Microsoft Word format. The journal accepts original research articles and review articles written in clear and concise English. Either British or American English may be used, but the chosen form should be applied consistently throughout the manuscript.
Manuscripts should be prepared on A4-sized pages using 12-point Times New Roman font. The article title should be centred and presented in 14-point bold font. All margins should be set at 1 inch, and automatic page numbering should be used throughout the manuscript.
The abstract should not exceed 200 words and should provide a concise account of the background or purpose of the study, methods, major findings, and conclusion. The abstract should not contain citations, references, tables, figures, or displayed equations. Authors should provide at least five relevant keywords immediately after the abstract.
All authors must provide a valid ORCID ID. In-text citations and references must follow the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 7th edition (APA 7th edition). Authors should check that every work cited in the manuscript appears in the reference list and that every entry in the reference list has been cited in the manuscript.
The Journal of EIST operates a double-blind peer review process. Authors' names, institutional affiliations, email addresses, ORCID IDs, acknowledgements, author contributions, funding information, and other information that could reveal the identity of the authors should therefore appear only in the separate title page and author declaration document. The main manuscript submitted for review must remain anonymous.
Where questionnaires, interview guides, observation schedules, tests, scales, rubrics, experimental protocols, or other research instruments have been used, authors should include them in the appendix where copyright and licensing conditions permit. Enough information should be provided to allow readers to understand how the instrument was administered, adapted, scored, or applied.
The similarity index of the submitted manuscript should not exceed 10%.
Use of artificial intelligence
Authors must disclose any use of generative artificial intelligence or other AI-assisted tools in the research or preparation of the manuscript. AI-generated or AI-assisted content should not constitute more than 10% of the submitted manuscript.
The declaration should identify the AI tool used and explain specifically what it was used for. Authors should not provide a general statement such as "AI was used in preparing this manuscript" without describing the actual tasks completed.
AI may, for example, have been used for:
- language editing and grammar correction;
- improving sentence clarity or readability;
- summarising notes produced by the authors;
- assisting with coding or computer programming;
- supporting data cleaning or organisation;
- generating preliminary search terms;
- formatting tables or references;
- translating author-written material; or
- producing or editing images, where permitted by the journal and applicable copyright and research ethics requirements.
Authors remain responsible for checking the accuracy, originality, citations, interpretation, analysis, and final wording of all material submitted to the journal. AI tools must not be listed as authors or co-authors because they cannot take responsibility for the integrity of a scholarly publication.
Where no AI tool has been used, authors should state:
"No generative artificial intelligence or AI-assisted technology was used in the research, analysis, or preparation of this manuscript."
Where AI has been used, authors should provide a declaration using a format such as:
"During the preparation of this manuscript, the authors used [name and version of AI tool, where applicable] for [state the specific tasks, for example language editing, grammar correction, or assistance with code]. The authors reviewed, verified, and edited all AI-assisted output and take full responsibility for the content of the manuscript. AI-assisted material accounts for approximately [percentage]% of the submitted manuscript."
Authors should disclose AI use honestly and as accurately as reasonably possible. The declaration should describe the contribution of AI rather than presenting AI-assisted work as entirely author-generated.
Title page and author declarations
Manuscript title
Provide the full title of the article.
The title should be concise, informative, and directly related to the subject of the manuscript.
Author list
List all authors in the agreed order of authorship.
The corresponding author should be identified with an asterisk (*).

The author information provided on the title page should not appear in the anonymous main manuscript.
Author ethical declarations
Authors' information
Provide brief information that may help readers understand the academic or professional background of the authors. This may include academic qualifications, institutional positions, professional roles, or other background information directly related to the subject of the article.
Authors should be referred to by their initials in this section.
This section should not be used to disclose competing interests.
Funding
Declare all financial support received for the research.
Where funding was received, state the name of the funding organisation and, where applicable, the grant number. Authors should also explain whether the funder had any role in the study design, data collection, data analysis, interpretation of findings, preparation of the manuscript, or decision to submit the manuscript for publication.
Where no funding was received, authors may state:
"This research received no specific grant from any funding agency in the public, commercial, or not-for-profit sectors."
Availability of data and materials
State whether the data and other materials supporting the findings of the study are available and explain how they may be accessed.
An appropriate statement may be:
"The datasets generated and/or analysed during the current study are available from the corresponding author on reasonable request."
Where data cannot be made publicly available, authors should briefly explain the reason, particularly where restrictions arise from research ethics, participant confidentiality, institutional requirements, or data protection arrangements.
Where this declaration does not apply, state:
"Not applicable."
Competing interests
Authors must disclose any financial or non-financial interests that could reasonably be considered relevant to the submitted work.
Where there are no competing interests, state:
"The authors declare that they have no competing interests."
Authors' contributions
The contribution of each author should be clearly stated using the CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy) system. Authors should identify the specific roles performed by each contributor and may assign more than one role to an author where appropriate.
All authors should have read and approved the final manuscript.
Acknowledgements
Acknowledge individuals, organisations, institutions, or other contributors who supported the research but do not meet the requirements for authorship.
The acknowledgement may begin:
"The authors would like to acknowledge..."
Persons named in the acknowledgement should, where necessary, have agreed to be identified.
AI usage declaration
Authors must declare whether artificial intelligence or AI-assisted technologies were used during the research or preparation of the manuscript.
The declaration must identify:
- the AI tool used;
- the purpose for which it was used;
- the parts or stages of the research or manuscript in which it was used;
- the approximate extent or percentage of AI-assisted contribution; and
- the steps taken by the authors to review and verify the AI-assisted material.
Example:
"The authors used ChatGPT by OpenAI to assist with language editing and sentence-level clarity after the manuscript had been drafted by the authors. The tool was not used to generate research data, conduct the statistical analysis, select references, or interpret the findings. All AI-assisted text was reviewed and revised by the authors. The estimated AI-assisted contribution to the final manuscript is below 10%."
Where more than one AI application was used, each application and its purpose should be identified separately.
Manuscript abstract
The abstract should not exceed 200 words.
It should briefly communicate the context or problem addressed by the study, the purpose of the study, the research methods, the main findings, and the principal conclusion. The abstract should be written as a single concise section and should not contain citations, references, figures, tables, footnotes, or displayed equations. Abbreviations should be avoided unless they are essential to understanding the study.
Manuscript keywords
Provide at least five keywords that represent the principal concepts, population, methods, or subject areas addressed in the article.
Main text structure
The main manuscript should normally follow the structure below:
- Title
- Introduction
- Literature review
- Methods
- Analysis/Results
- Discussion
- Appendix
Instruments used - References
Authors may use appropriate subheadings within these sections where necessary. The exact structure may be adjusted for review articles or other manuscript types where the conventional empirical research structure is not appropriate.
Tables and figures
All tables and figures must be numbered consecutively according to the order in which they are first mentioned in the manuscript.

Every table and figure must be referred to in the main text before or near its intended location.
Tables and figures should not be embedded directly within the body of the manuscript submitted for review. Instead, authors should indicate the intended position of each table or figure within the main text using a placement marker. Immediately below the placement marker, authors should reproduce the table title or figure caption so that editors and reviewers can identify what is intended to appear at that position.

The actual tables and figures should then be placed at the end of the manuscript after the reference list. Each table should be presented on a separate page or clearly separated from the preceding table at the end of the manuscript and should be numbered consecutively. The table number should appear above the table with the title appearing directly below the table number and should be written in italics. Any table notes should appear below the table. Tables should be understandable without requiring readers to search extensively through the main text. Abbreviations, significance levels, statistical symbols, and other information needed to interpret the table should be explained in the table notes where necessary.

Figures
Figures should be provided in PNG, JPG, or JPEG format and should be of sufficient quality for publication. Each figure should be numbered consecutively. At the end of the manuscript, the figure number and caption should accompany the figure. The caption should be written in italics. The figure caption shown at the intended location in the main manuscript should be the same as the caption accompanying the actual figure at the end of the manuscript. Authors should make sure that all labels, numbers, legends, and text contained within a figure remain readable when the figure is reproduced at publication size.

Appendix, references, tables and figures
Appendix
Include supplementary material necessary for understanding, assessing, or replicating the research.
This may include:
- questionnaires;
- survey instruments;
- interview guides;
- observation schedules;
- measurement scales;
- assessment rubrics;
- tests;
- coding frameworks;
- experimental materials; and
- other instruments adopted, adapted, or developed for the study.
Authors should identify the source of adopted or adapted instruments and provide appropriate citations. Where an instrument is protected by copyright or requires permission for reproduction, authors are responsible for obtaining the necessary permission.
Enough information should be provided to explain how the instrument was used, scored, adapted, or interpreted.
References
All sources cited in the manuscript must be included in the reference list.
References should follow APA 7th edition. DOIs should be included where available and should accurately correspond to the cited work. Material that has not been cited in the manuscript should not appear in the reference list.
Order of material at the end of the manuscript
The final sections of the anonymous manuscript should normally appear in the following order:
- References
- Appendix or appendices
- Tables
- Figures
